Lash Lift vs Lash Extensions: Which Is Right for You? | Eloquent Eyes Perth

The Difference Between a Cosmetic Tattoo Provider and a Specialist

It usually starts with the same thought: "I just want to wake up looking fresh."

Not dramatic. Not done-up. Just... awake. Like you've slept eight hours even when you haven't, and like mascara was never a compulsory part of leaving the house.

From there, most women are aware they have two options - a lash lift or lash extensions - and then can’t decide, because everyone online seems to have a strong opinion and none of them are looking at your lashes, your morning routine or your patience for upkeep. So here's the honest comparison we give clients in the salon.

What a lash lift actually does

A lash lift works entirely with your own lashes. Your natural lashes are curled upward from the root so they sit lifted and open instead of pointing straight out. Add a tint, and lashes that used to disappear turn into fluttery, noticeable lashes.

Best practise with Lash Lifts is to use the recommended homecare morning and night. Think of it the same as conditioner for your hair. It is to condition your lashes so they are beautifully hydrated which helps your lift last longer. The lift gradually relaxes as your lashes go through their natural growth cycle, usually over 8-12+ eight weeks.

A lift suits you if you want the lowest-maintenance option, or if the idea of a regular infill appointment is not what you are willing to commit to.

What lash extensions do

Extensions add fine, feather-light synthetic lashes to your natural ones, one by one. Applied correctly - and this matters to the health of your natural lashes - they're customised: length, curl and thickness are chosen to suit your eye shape and the strength of your natural lashes. Done badly, they're the reason you've seen lashes that are frighteningly scary.

Extensions suit you if you want more presence than a lift can give, or if you love the look of mascara but can’t be bothered putting it on every morning. The trade-off is upkeep: infills every two to three weeks to keep them full as your natural lashes shed.

The question nobody asks: what do your mornings look like?

Here's how we actually help clients decide, and it has nothing to do with trends.

If your goal is to shorten your morning routine and never think about your lashes between appointments, a lift is probably your answer. It's the "set and forget" option.

If your goal is to look polished with zero makeup, even at the school gate, even at the gym, and you're happy to book a regular infill the way you'd book a nail appointment, extensions will give you more.

And if you're somewhere in between? Start with a lift. It's the gentler introduction, it costs you nothing in maintenance, and if you find yourself wanting more, extensions are still there.

The natural-look caveat (read this bit)

Whichever way you go, the result should look natural and flattering to your face and eyes. At Eloquent Eyes we design both treatments around your eye shape and what your natural lashes can healthily carry. If your lashes are too fragile for what you're asking, we'll say so and suggest the correct option. We'd rather protect your lashes than take a booking.

What about winter?

Mascara and rain often don’t go well together and it honestly is a great feeling when you wake up, its dark and raining outside and you already look put together. Many of our clients first try a lift or extensions in winter for exactly this reason - less makeup to apply, less makeup to fix.

FAQs

Will a lash lift damage my natural lashes?

Not when it's done professionally on healthy lashes with proper timing between appointments. We assess your lashes first and won't proceed if they need a break - that assessment is the safeguard.

How long do lash extensions last?

Your natural lashes shed on a cycle, and the extensions go with them. Most clients book infills every two to three weeks to keep them looking full.

Can I wear mascara with a lash lift?

You can, though most women find they don't want to. The lift and tint do the work mascara used to. If you do, skip waterproof formulas, which are hard on lifted lashes.

Still not sure which suits you? Book a lash consultation at Eloquent Eyes in Padbury and we'll look at your lashes, your routine and your mornings - then give you our honest recommendation, even if it's the cheaper one.
